ABOUT
Sanvir Singh Chana is a filmmaker and writer reshaping contemporary storytelling. Drawing from his British-Sikh heritage, Chana crafts stories with bold, evocative narratives that delve into identity, belonging, and the intricate intersections of culture. His distinctive style blends experimental techniques with deeply personal storytelling, creating films that challenge convention.
The Chandan Inc. is inspired by the legacy of Sanvir’s great-grandfather, Uttam Singh, who worked as a foreman in the silver mines for the Burma Corporation. During this time, he wrote monthly newsletters titled “The Chandan Mandalay”, sharing news, religious stories, and poems with his village. This tradition persisted until the community was displaced during the Japanese invasion of World War II.
This production company is homage to the rich storytelling heritage in his family.
